On the Way to the Wedding Julia Quinn 9780060531256 Books

I love all of Julia Quinn's books except...this one. I found it to be except-ionally boring and I wanted to like it except... the characters were bland, un-intriguing and long winded. It did not even seem as if it were written by Julia Quinn, except...her name was on the cover. I did not want to finish it, except... I thought that I ought to just in case the last chapters would throw in an interesting twist or give an unexpected ending to make the book worthwhile, so I read each and every page. Except...reading the entire book just gave me reason to be even more disappointed. Luckily, I was able to return the book for a full refund, except...the time I wasted reading it was gone forever. Overall, I don't recommend this book, you would enjoy re-reading one of her earlier novels much more; "On the Way to the Wedding" is meant for shelf wear and not for reading. If you absolutely must read this novel, at least check it out from the library and save yourself from wasting your money. After word gets around that it's not a great book, you'll have a hard time re-selling it.

On the Way to the Wedding Julia Quinn 9780060531256 Books Reviews

Brief Summary Gregory Bridgerton is the last of the Bridgerton siblings to get married. Having seen his 7 siblings fall madly in love, he is a romantic at heart who definitely believes in true love. When he sees Hermione, he knows without a doubt that he has fallen in love-at-first-sight. However, he's baffled when she doesn't feel the same way and even imagines herself to be in love with someone else. Her friend Lucinda offers to help Gregory woo Hermione, but instead she falls in love with him. Hermione ends up marrying someone else, and Gregory realizes it doesn't bother him as much as it should, which leads him to the realization that he never loved her in the first place. A conversation or two later with Lucinda ("Lucy," as he calls her), and Gregory is now madly in love with Lucinda. But we are to believe it isn't flighty and frivolous like his infatuation with Hermione. No, it is true love...deep, gut-wrenching, eternal love. However, Lucy is engaged to be married. The papers are signed, and although her heart belongs to Gregory, duty calls her to marry another man. If she refuses, her brother and best friend face certain ruin. Whom will she choose?

The Good Julia Quinn is an exceptional author, and for this reason, even a book with such a weak plot as this one deserves at least 2.5 stars. A lesser writer could not have pulled it off. Although I knew right away how it would end, there were unpredictable moments that truly shocked me. Every book should contain a few surprises, and this one certainly does. Some of Quinn's heroines behave in a manner which is utterly inconsistent with the times, but I felt Lucy's behavior was characteristic with an earl's daughter. She's also unlike most other heroines. She isn't bold, daring, outspoken, and mysterious. She believes in order, loyalty, and duty above all else. I found her to be a realistic character.

The Bad Gregory falls in love twice...once with Hermione, and finally with Lucy. He believes in this lightning bolt recognition of true love which is absurd. (He fell in love with the back of Hermione's head, for crying out loud.) It was hard to take him seriously when he behaved like a lovesick pup after one glance at her. The main story here should have been the love story between Gregory and Lucy, however too much time was spent on his infatuation with Hermione and then his and Lucy's separation from each other. Quite simply, Gregory and Lucy were not together enough for their romance to really come alive on the page. You don't experience them falling in love, and that is what I love best about a romance. They rarely speak to one another (except about Hermione), and they just aren't given enough time for a real relationship to develop. One of the things I love best about her other books is the witty dialogue between the hero and heroine. It's missing from this book. There's no spark, no chemistry. They are lacking passion as well. (Yes, there is one steamy scene, but you wonder how they got there. There's no build up.) At the end, Lucy misleads Gregory. It was unforgivable and selfish for a character who is selflessly marrying a man she's not interested in to save her family.

The Verdict I would rate this book a solid 3 star rating. It's just OK. Having read 9 other works by Julia Quinn, I was tempted to give it only 2 stars, because I know she's capable of much more. If you're a fan of the Bridgertons, you'll most likely find yourself a bit disappointed that Ms. Quinn did not give the family the send-off they deserve.
Of the eight Bridgerton siblings, only Gregory Bridgerton remains unmarried. He is holding out for a love match like his three brothers and four sisters did. However, he is not rushing into a search for love preferring to let love find him. He's sure to recognize it, isn't he? And when, purely by chance, he spies the lovely Hermione Watson at his brother's house party Gregory is certain that Cupid's arrow has pierced his heart. But Miss Watson fancies herself in love with another and keeps her distance from Gregory.

Lucy Abernathy has been "almost engaged" for the past decade to someone of her uncle's choosing. And while it isn't a love match she is determined to make the best of her situation. After all, that's what she does best. She does believe, however, that her friend Hermione should find love. To that end Lucy agrees to help Gregory win the aloof Hermione. While doing so, Gregory and Lucy realize they love each other. But circumstances, like Lucy's betrothal and a case of treason, come between them.

A riveting story of love and intrigue and happy endings. This edition contains a second epilogue that add thirty-two pages of drama and intrigue.
I really like this series, but this book was such a disappointment. I couldn't really care about the main characters, and especially disliked how the "hero" keeps trying to pressure the "heroine" into doing something she feels is dishonorable - so totally not ok. And yes, I put the quotation marks on purpose because I don't think either qualified for those titled - they are just disposable main characters. I couldn't make myself do more than skin to finish the book, because I kept hoping it would improve enough to draw me back in, but it didn't. If you feel like you have to read it, get this one from the library - don't waste your money on it.
ON THE WAY TO THE WEDDING is the eighth and final book in the popular Bridgerton series. It tells the story of the youngest Bridgerton son Gregory. Gregory believes himself in love with a woman but soon finds out that his true love is Lucy Abernathy. Lucy, however, is almost engaged to someone else.

There are just too many other people involved in this story for me to have liked it. First, we have to deal with Gregory's feelings for another woman. Then there is the complication of Lucy's engagement. For me, this book fails because I just couldn't like Lucy and because the big twist in the story was one that I just couldn't get over.

Spoiler!!! When the big scene happens and Gregory tries to stop Lucy's wedding and fails, Quinn lost me. After Lucy marries another man, the resolution was so ludicrous that I prefer to forget that this book is one of the Bridgerton books because I don't want to read it again.
